Village Meeting Minutes – May through September, 2016

The main topics of conversation throughout the Village during the summer months concerned the North Sea Road plan to increase commercial uses along that corridor, disputes over beach access and parking at the end of Meadow Lane, the purchase of the Town’s Land Preservation Fund of the Pyrrhus Concer site on Pond Lane, and progress on a study of residential zoning in the Village.

Additionally, redevelopment of the Village Latch into condominiums has begun, the 11 acres of farm land along Moses

TO: Joseph Shaw, Editor, The Southampton Press

FROM: Rainer Greeven, Chairman, Executive Committee -Southampton Association

Dear Mr. Shaw,

The Southampton Association was pleased to re-engage the nationally recognized retail consultant Bob Gibbs to review his 2013 Study as it relates to the recent proposal to introduce retail as an additional use along North Sea Road.  Mr. Gibbs makes 4 main points in his argument against the retail overlay in his executive summary:

TRAFFIC: traffic alone should

Village Meeting Minutes – January and February 2016

The main topics of conversation throughout the Village during January and February came from the Planning Commission, as it continued to study the proposed sewer district and the possible rezoning of North Sea Road (to include Limited Retail).  In addition, several key applications moved forward at the ARB involving an historic home on Hill Street and several other applications in the historic district of the Village.

Last year, an initial report was prepared by H2M Architects and Engineers of

Village Meeting Minutes – November and December 2015

The main topic of conversation during November and December was the proposed Sewer District.  In addition, after interviews with the Planning Commission, a North Fork Architect/Planner was selected by the Trustees to review various formulas, including gross floor area and lot coverage, which the Association identified in its “6 point plan” as needing change.

Earlier this  year, an initial report was prepared by H2M Architects and Engineers of Huntington outlining the creation of a

Village Meeting Minutes – November and December 2014

After working strenuously (and with the assistance of many members of the Association) over the past 5 months to have a building moratorium approved, we were disappointed that 4 projects were granted waivers from the new law by mid-January.  The moratorium restricted for just 6 months the granting of building permits where the height of the house is greater than 35 feet above the original grade in the FEMA Flood zone. Three of the four waivers were opposed by neighbors, and hardship (other than

Village Meeting Minutes – July and August, 2014

I want to begin by thanking the many members of the Southampton Association and the community who attended numerous Village Trustee and ARB meetings over the past 2 months. Your support and input will hopefully be heard by our Trustees and Architectural Review Board (ARB) members. Our village is under attack through a process that may inadvertently enable certain new homes in the FEMA flood zone to be built 10 to 15 feet higher than

Village Meeting Minutes – May and June, 2014

At the  May and June trustee meetings, a number of new issues were presented and discussed. In May, an initial design for adding entrance steps at the Southampton Arts Center were presented by Siamak Samii.  The steps would be located to the west of the existing building entrance on Jobs Lane, thereby opening up the lawn to the street on the west side of the Center. The board appeared to support the concept but no decision was made. A plan to establish a valet parking service was briefly outlined

Village Meeting Minutes – March and April, 2014

At the March and April Trustees meetings, the main issue continued to be the application to develop a 56 unit senior housing complex on Moses Lane, near Corrigan Street.  The 11 acre property is currently zoned for ½ acre residential parcels.  The developer applied under a code provision that allows for a zoning change where the property lies within a “walkable” distance of the village center (defined as ½
