Village Meeting Minutes – October thru December 2016

The main topics of conversation throughout the Village during the autumn primarily concerned the rapid resubmission of the Tuckahoe Mall project and the continued discussion (and delay) of enacting any additional residential zoning restrictions. The North Sea Road plan to increase commercial uses along that corridor was delayed, perhaps with the hope that the winter months will bring fewer residents to attend the meetings and less

Village Meeting Minutes – January and February 2015

As noted in our last set of minutes, January saw 2 additional projects (450 Gin and 20 Gin) exempted from the height moratorium by the village trustees. The moratorium restricted for 6 months the granting of building permits where the height of the house is greater than 35 feet above the original grade in the FEMA Flood zone. It is set to expire in April.   An extension (for what reason we are uncertain, since every application received an exemption) is being considered. Most other East End

Editorial On Tuckahoe-Southampton School Merger

Editorial in The Independent, August 27, 2014

Just Say No — Again

Southampton School District officials are stubbornly moving ahead with their plan to consolidate with Tuckahoe School district even though there appears to be no tangible benefits to its taxpayers.

Tuckahoe currently pays tuition to send its graduating eighth graders to Southampton, and its school tax rate is triple that of Southampton. The merger will raise taxes by hundreds of dollars a year in Southampton when fully

Village Meeting Minutes – May and June, 2014

At the  May and June trustee meetings, a number of new issues were presented and discussed. In May, an initial design for adding entrance steps at the Southampton Arts Center were presented by Siamak Samii.  The steps would be located to the west of the existing building entrance on Jobs Lane, thereby opening up the lawn to the street on the west side of the Center. The board appeared to support the concept but no decision was made. A plan to establish a valet parking service was briefly outlined

Village Meeting Minutes – September – October 2013

At the September and October Trustees meetings, the main topics of conversation were discussions regarding zoning and development related issues in and around our Village.
