Public Forum on Southampton School District Office Plans, Thursday, July 19, 6 PM

Thursday, July 19, 6:00 PM  –  Music Room of the Southampton Intermediate School, Leland Lane

The Southampton School District Administration and Board are seeking input for plans on a new administration building. Their last proposal to purchase a house on Narrow Lane, make renovations and pave additional school property for parking, at a cost of $5.2m, was turned down by the voters in May by a vote of 397 to 894. This was the second time the voters rejected a plan by the District for an office building. That vote was in 2015 and the cost was $7.5m.

At a previous workshop in June, attendees told the Board that the proposition was turned down by the voters because of cost, the planning and the presentation process itself and issues of trust by the public toward the Board and Administration.  Suggestions offered were for the district to be more transparent and keep the community involved during the planning process.

The District’s Board and Administration are seeking to create a Committee to work on a plan that would be presented to the voters.  Please try to attend.
